ARE YOU READY TO BE MICROCHIPPED?

A while back a US company announced that they will plant a RFID chip for free into all their employees; why anyone would want a microchip implanted into their body is beyond me, but it is still happening.

Since 2016 the UK has encouraged pet owners to microchip their dog before eight weeks or they will face a £500 fine.  A small RFID chip is implanted just below the skin so that if the dog gets lost, they can easily reunite it with its owner. Now they are stopping with our furry friends, and whether you like it or not we are next to "chipped" in the future.

The fact that anyone would want this "tag" embedded in their hand (it's generally placed in the fleshy area between the thumb and the forefinger) seems like a scene from some science fiction movie, but don't be surprised to see pro-microchip propaganda.

The little device could eventually contain your credit card information, driver's license, passport, maybe even your medical records. What is never discussed is the possibility of being mugged and having the device forcibly removed from your hand and used to buy a lot of stuff before it's reported missing and disabled. It's a gruesome prospect. And what about malfunctioning devices that injure those who have them injected?

It is not certain just how small these devices can get, but if anyone can popularize something like this, it will most probably be Apple. The company could easily convince people it is cool to have this next-gen Apple ID or  the iChip.

Apple's next big in-store event could be a micro-chipping gathering. Use it to unlock the iPhone, the Mac, or any other Apple product you own. No more fumbling for your phone to pay with Apple Pay. Amazing, right? I think I'll pass this one, for now, thanks!
