PINTEREST ADDS A SHAZAM FOR FOOD TO THEIR APP!
Pinterest has announced a new recipe-finding feature, using computer vision to tell you about a dish when you point your smartphone camera at it. The company aims to perform real-time "dish recognition", which allows users to receive new recipes using similar ingredients in their picture.
Although this has been done before, with SeeFood, this feature makes perfect sense for Pinterest - users mostly use Pinterest to get ideas.
This is all part of a broader artificial intelligence push in the tech industry to apply machine learning techniques to everyday life!
Last week, Google revealed its similar feature - Google Lens. This feature allows you to point your camera at any real-world objects and get information on the object. Facebook is working on a similar feature as well.
So it's clear that Pinterest is not alone in this idea, but if it can be pulled off, it could be very useful on this particular platform.
Exciting news for Pinterest and its users - post a picture of an apple and see all new recipes pop up!
