VIDEO: A HUMANOID ROBOT THAT CAN ACTUALLY SWEAT WHILE EXERCISING...
Engineers in Japan have constructed two humanoids that successfully replicate the movement of humans during physical activity. Researchers from the University of Tokyo show off a humanoid that is strikingly lifelike, not just in how it looks but even how it moves.
The robots go by the name of Kengoro and Kenshiro, and can perform multiple push-ups crunches, stretches and other whole-body exercises, even though it is not super great at it.
The developers of Kengoro and Kenshiro says that the humanoids may help researchers better understand how humans move during athletic sports, aid in the development of artificial limbs and whole bodies, as well as advance the design of crash-test dummies.
The machinery that allows the humanoid-robots to move like we do does heat up, and requires water to circulate through its metal frame to cool it. Steam vents through the holes in the skeleton which aid the cooling.
To demonstrate the potential of human mimetic humanoids, Kenshiro and Kengoro performed several typical human motions. These robots could be useful as crash-test dummies since their mobility could lead to more accurate results than stationary dummies. And while humanoid sound silly right now, they are only going to get more sophisticated. At some point they may come in handy as rescue robots, navigating environments that other machines can't.
For now, it is push-ups and back extensions for Kengoro, gotta start somewhere, so see it in action below.
