VIDEO: SEE HOW OLD SCHOOL MARIO, SONIC AND LINK KICKASS!
As a 90's kid, Mario, Sonic, Mega Man, Link and Tails were some of the mainstream video games to play. Now imagine all these 'heroes' got together to battle it out all in the original 8- and 16-bit art styles.
The nearly completed fan game, known as Super CLASH Bros, is being created by Jeremy Eden. Up to four players can choose from a roster that includes Mario, Mega Man, Knuckles and others to battle one another in a fever-dream of retro nostalgia.
The Super CLASH Bros gives its heroes and villains a makeover, rendering them in very pretty 3D models. The reason why the characters – that can be seen in the video below – look so true to their original form is that Jeremy Eden used a process called "sprite ripping", in which special tools are used to extract the pixelated artwork from the original game files.
There is a load of other cool and unique touches, like health meters that are based on what was used in their corresponding games, and items that appear during matches range from Mario's Hammer to explosive barrels and other nostalgic projectiles.
Jermy Eden hopes to include online play in the future and plans to show the project off at Smash Con in August. Have a look at the video below to see how Super CLASH Bros works and get ready for some old-school 90's nostalgia.
