Is the new Apple M1 chip a good idea?
Apple recently launched new versions of the Macbook Air, Macbook Pro as well as the Mac Mini, which all feature the brand new Apple Silicon M1 chip. It is, for the most part, the only change to these computers from their previous versions apart from the new operating system, Apple Big Sur.
Apple's M1 chip will forever change the way users think about Apple computers, not in the sense of just what it can do with its claimed specifications, performance and battery life, but rather its limitations for upgrades. The Apple M1 chip is not just a CPU anymore, the same chip it features an 8 core CPU, 8 core GPU, 16 core Neural engine as well as the RAM for the computer itself! So, as you've probably guessed already, users will no longer be able to ever upgrade their RAM at a later stage. You will now have to buy your computer with the desired amount of RAM from the start or invest in a new Mac.
