APPLE PATENT REVEALS A FOLDABLE FLIP PHONE THAT LOOKS LIKE A BOOK
Apple has filed a new patent application for a foldable display – which means an Apple flip phone or similar could be imminent.
The patent – published by the US patent and trademark offices – describes a foldable phone with a display that can be "opened and closed like a book" and comes amid recent rumours the tech giant might be working with LG on the latest model.
The technology not only bends and folds but looks as though it will be used as a two-sided display for future Apple smartphones, according to the patent: it "may be formed from shape memory alloy or amorphous metal and may have openings to facilitate bending."
"An electronic device may have a flexible portion that allows the device to be folded. The device may have a flexible display", the patent continues. "The flexible display may have a bending region that allows the display to bend along a bend axis when the device is folded."
