NASA LOST CONTROL OF THE HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE AND ARE UNABLE TO FIX IT

The Hubble Space Telescope is one of the most important technological devices to have ever orbited the Earth. It was launched on April 24, 1990, and has played a vital role in groundbreaking discoveries in physics and astronomy and, as a whole, deepened our understanding of the known universe.

However, on the 13th of June 2021, the main onboard computer suffered a severe malfunction, which has officially rendered the Hubble Space Telescope unusable.

After many failed attempts by NASA to get the Hubble up and running again, it is now in offline mode as a result of this glitch.

The main issue that NASA is facing is the fact that most of the technology and systems of the Hubble are rather outdated and largely mechanical. Sending astronauts up to physically fix it will not only be expensive but almost impossible. The Hubble relied heavily on the Space Shuttle systems that are now grounded and not in operation anymore.
