SAMSUNG TO MANUFACTURE A12 CHIPS FOR IPHONE...

After a five-year hiatus, Samsung Electronics will return to manufacturing A12 chips for Apple's new iPhone coming in 2018, according to a report from Korea Herald.

Back in 2013, the South Korea-based electronic company was a primary producer of iPhone chips until 2013 when Apple awarded it rival Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) exclusive production rights. In 2011 Apple sued Samsung over patent infringement and Apple has cut down the number of components it got from Samsung ever since.

Samsung's chances at producing iPhone chips again picked up in June when Kwon Oh-Hyun, who is one of Samsung's three co-chief executives, visited Apple headquarters in California. Samsung announced in March that it would purchase specialised machines in an attempt to produce seven-nanometer processors for the iPhone and regain Apple's business. Samsung is the world leader in OLED manufacturing with 95% market share and might even be the supplier of OLED for the upcoming iPhone.

Samsung had one of the most profitable quarters in company history earlier this year with $8.7 billion in operating profit. The demand for chips and memory, for smartphones, had increased over the course of the quarter, so we will have to wait and see if Apple and Samsung decide to do business together, again!!
