VIDEO: COULD GUARDBOT BE THE FUTURE OF MOBILE SURVEILLANCE?
This is Guardbot, a surveillance robot that is able to manoeuvre on any terrain, and even has the ability to go for a swim. The device comes in a variety of sizes, ranging from as small as five inches to a model that is 7ft in diameter.
The robot-ball is fitted with two surveillance cameras, a battery that can last 25 hours, microphones and GPS, allowing it to be controlled via satellites as well as remotely. The Guardbot is currently still in development and the military are looking into using it for future deployments.
The robot-ball is about 60cm in diameter, though it can be scaled up as large as 3 meters or as small as 10 centimetres. The amphibious robot is capable of moving across a variety of terrains, including sand, mud, grass or even snow with a top speed of 9.7 km/h, but is a bit slower in the water, moving at 6.4km/h. Guardbot was initially conceived for a planetary mission on Mars but is now being used for mission operations in broadcasting, surveillance, security, and detection.
