VIDEO: FUTURISTIC EXOSKELETON SPORT IS SOMETHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT
Have you ever heard of Mech Racing? Well... now you will, especially as the research initiative, Furrion Robotics' latest toy is now being used to promote the idea. Prosthesis; the futuristic exo-bionic racing mech – which looks like a bulky-rhino – was exhibited at the CES 2018. The 15-foot tall weighs over 8,000 pounds and shown off in a pretty monumental video, the concept is sure to capture the attention of many robotic fans.
Furrion developed the first exo-bionic racing mech in 2017, which is essentially a large robot that is controlled by human movement. It was unveiled at CES, and only stood around, now we have proof that the Prosthesis can actually move. The term 'robot' is used loosely because it does not operate automatically so, technically, it is an exoskeleton for humans.
The Prosthesis exoskeleton can run up to 20mph, step over obstacles, and run for up to an hour on a single battery charge. Furrion's hope is that this is a beginning of a whole league, announcing the X1 Mech Racing league, looking to the future of an entirely new genre of robotic-sports.
There is no word on when Furrion hopes to achieve its dream, but at CES, where dreams often tend to disappear into vaporware, it is nice to see somebody making some proper progress. Be sure to see the Prosthesis in action below.
