VIDEO: TRANSPARENT SOLAR PANELS WILL TURN WINDOWS INTO A POWER STATION!
With the world running out of natural resources and every company trying to go green, a team over at Michigan State University developed a technology that can turn transparent surfaces, from building to smartphones, into solar collecting surfaces, without obstructing the view.
According to Richard Lunt, who led the research team was confident that the transparent solar panels can be efficiently deployed in a wide range of settings, from tall buildings with loads of windows to any kind of smartphone device that demands high aesthetic quality.
The system is called 'transparent luminescent solar concentrator (TLSC)' which is composed of organic salt which absorbs non-visible wavelengths of infrared and ultraviolet light. It generates energy by drawing sunlight to a small area and is heralded as a new innovation in solar technology. The light is then focused towards a traditional solar cell which is capable of trapping the energy and turning it into electricity.
This material has major potential and is not only to be utilised for windows but the fact that it can be used on other devices in the near future is a game changer, imagine a smartphone with infinite battery power?
