CANON EOS R5 ANNOUNCEMENT 2020

Canon has stirred things up in the photographic industry by announcing the brand new Canon EOS R5 mirrorless RF mount professional cameral.

First of all, this announcement was not publicised or even scheduled, probably to prevent tech spec leaks, but nevertheless, they did give us a few interesting bread crumbs to scavage on.

What we do know is that the sensor will be a completely newly designed CMOS sensor with IBIS (in-body image stabilization) which, depending on your lens choice, could potentially save you a lot of money. This is because you don't have to invest in a lens with image stabilization, but with that said, if you have an IBIS lens, together the complete system will allow for up to 5 F-stops slower shutterspeeds.

The Canon EOS R5 also supports both mechanical and electronic shutters which allow for up to 20 FPS (frames per second) in photographic continuous shooting mode. The speculation around the resolution is rumoured to be 45 Megapixels. In video terms, the Canon EOS R5 will support 8K video @ 30fps, 4K @ 120fps and 4K @ 60fps (the frame rates will possibly vary slightly depending on your video broadcast settings such as NTSC or PAL).

There are still a lot of features yet to be unveiled on the Canon EOS R5 but what we know from the announcement a few weeks ago, this is one incredible camera from Canon in their professional mirrorless lineup. The release date is expected to be in July 2020.
