TESLA LAUNCHES BIGGEST LITHIUM-ION BATTERY SET IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA

Located in South Australia, Tesla has completed it 100-megawatt powerpack battery backup system, which will provide 30,000 homes in the region with an emergency supply. Connected to Neoen's Hornsdale Wind Farm, the battery set stores the renewable energy, saving it for when the area needs it. This achievement, constructed in under 100 days, aids the state government in achieving its energy plan, announced in March 2017, which outlined their objective of delivering cleaner, more affordable and more reliable power.

"Congratulations to the Tesla crew and South Australian authorities who worked so hard to get this manufactured and installed in record time!" exclaimed Elon Musk, CEO and founder of Tesla.

"While others are just talking, we are delivering our energy plan, making South Australia more self-sufficient, and providing back up power and more affordable energy for South Australians this summer," told South Australian premier, Jay Weatherill. "The world’s largest lithium-ion battery will be an important part of our energy mix, and it sends the clearest message that South Australia will be a leading renewable energy with battery storage."

The 100-megawatt powerpack battery backup system will provide energy to 30,000 South Australian homes, once its testing phase has been completed. This is to ensure Tesla's battery is optimized and meets AEMO (Australian energy market operator) and South Australian government requirements. As well as being the world’s biggest lithium-ion battery set, it marks the region as a world leader in renewable energy with battery storage.
