VIDEO: AN ACTION CAMERA FOR EXTREME SPORT ENTHUSIASTS

The Casio GZE-1 is a durable action camera, for extreme sports enthusiasts, that borrows rugged G-shock technology from the brand's watch collection. The Japanese manufacturer adopts the reliable design principle of its timepiece for the new action camera which is practically impenetrable against all of mother nature’s elements.

The GZE-1 could be easily mistaken for a G-shock watch that is missing a wristband, but the camera lens is where the time dial normally sits. The action camera features a 13mm f/2.8 equivalent lens and a 21 mp 1/2.3-type backlit CMOS sensor, that is capable of taking 6.9-megapixel photos, and full HD 1,920 x 1,080 videos. The camera can also capture 240 frames per second slow-motion videos, that keep extreme videos steady with an integrated three-axis electronic image stabilization. The tiny action camera does not have a built-in display for viewing images or video, but it can be paired with a smartphone app.

The GZE-1 can withstand drops from up to four meters thanks to an extra-thick resin body coasting and urethane bumper. It can function normally when the temperature drops to arctic conditions (-10ºC) and survive underwater at depth of up to 50 meters.

The action camera's body also has an IP6X dust-resistance rating, that basically means it can be brought along to the beach without the worry of failure from sand destroying its internal components.

Casio's new camera is expected to go on sale in Japan by the end of October.
