VIDEO: HANDS-ON REVIEW OF THE ESSENTIAL PHONE!
The Essential phone comes from a brand-new billion-dollar start-up company led by the person who helped created Android itself, Andy Rubin.
The Essential phone is going for $699 and it is an ambitious device. It has a unique way to connect modular accessories, starting with a 360-degree camera. It has a bold take on how to make a big, edge-to-edge screen paired with top-flight materials such as ceramic and titanium. The Essential phone also has a dual camera system that is meant to compete with other flagship devices without adding any thickness to the phone.
The Essential's screen is LCD instead of OLED, which means that the smartphone won't be able to work well with VR headsets (if you are into that sort-of-stuff). The rest of the phone features a small speaker on the bottom – which is loud enough – a fingerprint sensor is on the back of the phone, in the middle. The earpiece speaker is an almost invisible slot and there is no standard 3.5mm headphone jack ( which seems to be a trend ever since Apple decided to ditch jack ), but the Essential ships with a USB-C dongle, but ....unfortunately no USB-C headphones.
