CAREFUL: THE NEW RANSOMWARE OUTBREAK IS SPREADING QUICKLY
One of the several tools belonging to the National Security Agency (NSA) has been leaked over the web by a hacking group known as The Shadow Brokers, and has led to ransomware known as WCry. This new ransomware outbreak is spreading around the globe very quickly.
WCry has been called many other names such as WannaCry, WannaCryptor, WannaCrypt and Wana Decryptor. But all these names refer to the same thing - the version 2.0 of WCry.
So far there have been reports of 45,000 attacks in 74 countries - and the list of victims is growing fast.
Victims of WCry are being asked to supply $300 to remove the infection and decrypt their files - if not, the data remains inaccessible. In addition, the longer the victim takes to pay, threats roll in that the files will be lost forever.
According to Malware Tech: "something like this is incredibly significant, we've not seen P2P spreading on PC via exploits at this scale in nearly a decade".
