HAVE YOU SEEN THESE CREEPY BUG-LIKE ROBOTS?

Have you ever wondered what a crawling spine would look like? Or one that grew legs where each vertebra is and started crawling lengthwise towards you? NO? Well, too bad, because technically this already exists.

At the Move conference, which is hosted by the University of Tokyo, a swarm of crawling mechanical research projects got their public debut. These creepy bug-like robots is a product of the Yamanaka research lab and were built to demonstrate and test different types of locomotion to show a responsive robotic design.

Part art exhibit, part robo-prototype, artists are able to adjust various parameters as the bots move. While it is mesmerising to look at, these things are absolutely freaky. One, in the video below, does indeed look like a dismembered spine that's grown dozens of legs and started crawling across the table.

Just see for yourself.
