Bored? Of course, people get bored at the office or waiting for an important meeting. "3D face reconstruction is a fundamental computer vision problem of extraordinary difficulty,” explains the researchers over at the University of Nottingham. You usually need multiple images of the same face from different angles in order to map every contour. By feeding a bunch of photographs and corresponding 3D models into a neural network, the researchers were able to teach an AI system how to quickly extrapolate the shape of a face from a single photo.

This could help all sorts of applications in the digital world, from 3D avatars to video games, to wrap your face in an augmented reality video to social VR experiments.
