NETFLIX LOSES ONE BILLION HOURS OF CONTENT
The popular movie and series streaming service, Netflix, loses a huge contract that is worth one billion hours of content.
To put things into perspective, Netflix has over 36,000 hours of content on their platform – which is far more than any single person could realistically consume without trying for a Guinness world record! However, the numbers that matter to Netflix are how many hours of content are consumed repeatedly across their entire user database. That number is well into the billions, especially when it comes to popular series's that go viral.
Netflix has sold their exclusive streaming rights to the popular series The Office to the Comcast Corporation for a staggering $500 million.
The Office consists of 201 episodes and is proven to be one of the most watched series of all time. According to Netflix, their data shows that in the time they owned the rights to the series, they had over one billion hours of watch time just from The Office alone.
Did Netflix make a mistake in this deal? Well, for a price tag of $500 million, perhaps not.
