ONBOARD FOOTAGE OF A HUMVEE AIRDROP FROM A C-17
Check out this onboard footage from a C-17 Military cargo plane of an insanely cool Humvee airdrop.
Sometimes the military has got to do what they got to do! There are a number of reasons as to why an airdrop would be necessary, they include supplying a ground crew with supplies, equipment or weaponry, as well as transporting a ground crew and their supplies and equipment over a great distance, which otherwise could have taken up valuable time to cover by land, then airdrop the troops, equipment and supplies close to their objective destination.
What we see in the incredible video below is an aircrew from the United States Air Force 16th Airlift Squadron at Joint Base Charleston, SC, attempt to execute an eight Humvee airdrop. Each Humvee was securely mounted to a suitable airdrop crate, each with their own parachute attached. The C-17 military cargo plane takes off and flies towards the destination. Once they're directly overhead, they open the tail-gate and, one by one, the Humvee payloads are airdropped, each package gently floating down to their landing spot.
