POLYMER CABLE TECHNOLOGY WILL REPLACE THUNDERBOLT
Thunderbolt cables have a deadly competitor coming their way – polymer cable technology.
Cable technology is a very risky business in the sense that, if a new cable becomes a standard, it will render thousands of devices redundant over time. This is why it's very uncommon to find new devices that don't support a variety of different cable ports.
The last major cable changes were the introduction of Thunderbolt cables as well as USB Type-C.
But, a new type of cable technology that consists of polymer technology poses a great risk for the future of both Thunderbolt cables and USB. This is due to the reliability of these cables over long distances, and because of it's ability to carry up to twice as much data.
And, if that was not enough to sell you the idea of these new polymer cables, they also don't make use of any optical fibre technology which, in turn, makes these cable's far more durable.
It goes without saying that polymer cables are the way of the future, and Thunderbold and even USB might be coming to an end over the next few years.
