PS5 CRYPTO MINING IS FAKE NEWS

Stories around the PS5 being able to mine cryptocurrency have been floating around but, unfortunately, this is all completely fake!

Recently, the Sony PS5 made headline news in the tech world, but not for obvious reasons. Rather, it was because a Chinese hacker was able to recode the X86 64-bit system and GPU of the Sony PS5 in order to make it mine cryptocurrencies. Not only did that alone sound rather far fetched, but the original article also stated that the PS5 could mine at an insane rate of 99MH/s!

Not even the worlds best graphics cards, such as the Radeon RX 6900 XT or the NVIDIA 3090 GTX, can keep up at those rates. Now, all of a sudden, someone claims to have figured out that the Sony PS5 gaming console, which is in a sealed case, is still able to cope with the tremendous heat and processing power required to mine cryptocurrency?

As expected, this story went completely viral, but as you probably guessed already, it was a complete fake.
