The hotel that has practically knocked off any 5-star hotel off the face of the Earth has to be the ultra luxury hotel in Dubai, the Burj Al Arab, which has officially claimed the title of the world's one-and-only 7-star hotel, as well as the best hotel in the world. But what defines such a fantastic reputation?

The Burj Al Arab has been around since 1999, and was commissioned by sheikh of Dubai, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. It is said to have cost a whopping 1 billion US dollars, and its main purpose was to help put Dubai on the map for something other than what it was originally known for, oil. Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum had other plans to help diversify the economy for the United Arab Emirates, and one of those factors was to invest largely into international tourism.
