VIDEO: 3D PRINTED ARTIFICIAL HEART WORKS JUST LIKE A REAL ONE!

Researchers from the FUnctional Materials Laboratory have developed a silicone heart that beats like a human heart. In collaboration with colleagues from the Product Development Group Zurich, have tested the 3D Printed artificial heart and it works well.

The silicone based artificial heart was manufactured using a 3D printer and weighs 390 grammes. These mechanical pumps are used while people recover from heart failure or wait for a donated heart to become available. Even though the silicone heart only beats for 3,000 beats and the performance need to be significantly increased, but having a soft 3D Printed heart beating like a human one is an amazing start.

The goal of the first ever artificial heart has been developed by Nicholas Cohrs, a doctoral student in the group led by Wendelin Stark, Professor of Functional Materials ENgineering at ETH Zurich. In the video below it covers all the specs and shows you how the 3D Printed artificial heart works and might save millions of lives in the near future.
