VIDEO: ARMY DISCOVERS A NEW SOURCE OF ENERGY
Army scientist and engineers recently discovered a new source of energy; an aluminium nanomaterial that produces high amounts of energy when it comes in contact with water, or any liquid containing water. The source is said to be a mix of aluminium nanomaterial and water, but there are not many details about the mix as the scientists are still researching and investigating to see how they can make it work.
Researchers said one possible application of the discovery that may help future soldiers is the potential to recharge mobile devices for recon teams. The reaction surprised the researchers, but they soon considered its potential implications for future power and energy applications. ”The hydrogen that is given off can be used as a fuel in a fuel cell,” said Scott Grendahl, a materials engineer and team leader.
In the video, the team demonstrates how the energy source works with a small radio-controlled tank that is powered by the powder and water reaction. Pretty cool!
