Did you know that neon signs are making a comeback? Ever wondered how neon signs are made? Well, you are in luck, the video below will show you how the boss from the Neon Family, Gérald Collard, makes neon signs. 

Neon signs are not what it used to be, with the typical "open" sign at your favourite pizza-joint, neon signs are now turned into images, symbols and it is designed in different colours and shapes, popularized by science fiction movies and cyberpunk subgenre. Collard's Neon Family shop is a hidden gem in the Saint Henri neighbourhood of Montreal. Historically, neon was a secret craft, so it is a special opportunity to be able to learn more about it. In the video, you also get to see how Collard makes a pink neon sign by hand. Neon is actually a very durable and efficient form of 'lightbulb', it is comparable to fluorescent and can last up to 50 years ( the fact of the day).

Neon is designed to require less maintenance, but it can get quite expensive if you have a complex design for a neon light. The colours of neon are produced by different gases and different coatings. The main gases used by Gérald are neon and argon gas.
