VIDEO: STEER WEARABLE SHOCKS DROWSY DRIVERS

As we all know drowsy driving kills, which is why Latvian design studio Creative Mode invented Steer, a wearable device aimed to keep motorists awake and alert.

The bracelet is worn on the upper forearm and in analyses your heart rate and skin conductance, if either of these drops below a certain level, Steer shocks you back onto consciousness.

Most people have experienced bouts of “micro-sleep”—drooping eyes, head nodding, even unconsciousness that can last up to 30 seconds, during which you fail to respond to environmental sensors. Steer helps cub micro-sleep, when the accessory is strapped on it verifies your heart rate and skin conductance, then wear it while driving to determine potential harmful changes. For example, if your pulse decreases by ten units, Steer send out a strong vibration and it shines a yellow light when it drops another three units you will receive a "gentle" electric shock.

The stimulation, according to Creative Mode, boosts neurotransmitters serotonin, noradrenaline, and cortisol, and decreases the “sleeping hormone” melatonin. Production is expected in September and October, ahead of November roll out to backers. Have a look at the video below to see the full specs of how Steer can save many lives over the festive seasons to come.
