WHY DO APPS RANDOMLY SIGN YOU OUT?

One of the most frustrating things about some apps is the fact that they sometimes just randomly sign you out, and usually at the most inconvenient times! But why exactly is this?

Usually, and depending on which app you are using, the service makes use of a number of browsing cookies that track user activity. They, essentially, act as a digital fingerprint so the security systems can identify that it is still the actual user present and not a random hacker or bot.

However, what these systems track may be anything, from your current location right through to how you typically navigate on the site, service or app. And, if there has been a drastic change to a number of these, such as using a new device for the app or being in a different and far away location, the app will randomly log you out and require you to sign back in – and usually together with a capture test or two, and even 2-factor authentication...
