WHY IS SPACEX INVESTING IN OIL RIGS NOW?
SpaceX is investing in used oil rigs now, this is why.
SpaceX is drastically changing the way rockets will be used in the future, with far more frequent flights taking place thanks to their innovative reusable rocket technology. But there is a major problem with frequent rocket launches.
Rockets need a monstrous amount of fuel and energy to get their payloads up into orbit. Because of this, they are incredibly loud; even from several miles away, rocket launches can be as loud as 120 decibels.
This is why there are only a handful of selected rocket launch site destinations, such as Cape Canaveral in Florida, which was purposefully selected as it's far away from highly populated areas. But, having restrictions as to where rocket launches can take place, renders the rocket less economical as they have to travel a greater distance to reach geostationary orbit, thus using more fuel.
SpaceX has a solution, and that is to transform used oil rigs into rocket launch sites that take place at sea and away from densely populated areas. And, on top of that, they will have a far more ideal spot to launch from depending on the purpose of the mission.
