The Redkey USB will wipe any PC drive within a few minutes, permanently.

Wiping data off a storage drive isn't as simple and straightforward as you might think. Most people assume that if you either delete a file off a drive and them empty the trash, or even format a drive entirely that the data is then forever erased. But that is simply not the case at all.

If you were to actually erase data off of a drive, it will actually take a significantly longer amount of time. The computer will have to rewrite tens of thousands of lines of code, either in the entirety of the drive or just in a portion thereof. Doing this will decrease the longevity of your drive though, as drives, especially SSD's, only have a finite number of times they can be rewritten.

But, if data privacy is of significant importance to you, maybe in the event of selling one of your used drives online, you would then want to make sure that your deleted data is by no means recoverable.

To do this, there are several paid software services available, usually with the use of sacrificing a USB stick at your own cost as well and, if anything were to go wrong during the process, you can ensure severe system failures. But there is a far more straightforward and simple option. A startup company developed a product they call "Redkey", which supplies a USB drive with preloaded wiping software on it. You will then insert it into the computer and select which drive you want to completely erase. Once initialised, the process can last from a few minutes right through to several hours, based on the amount of data the system has to erase and the level of format used. Anywhere from a low-level to a US military-grade wipe.

After running your drive through the Redkey system, you can be confident knowing that your data has been officially wiped from the face of the Earth!
