THE MOTOROLA P30 LOOKS JUST LIKE AN IPHONE X

When it comes to the shameless copying of all the smartphones out there, we don't often think of Motorola, however, the company's latest P30 smartphone is such a blatant copy of the iPhone X that we wonder what exactly was going on in Motorola's design studio.

From the front, the Motorola P30 shares much with the iPhone X, including its wide and similarly-shaped display notch and trim bezels around the sides. The only place where the P30 really differs is at the bottom, where it features a larger bottom bezel, to make way for the internal display connector.

Out back, things are also quite, well... similar, with the same raised, pill-shaped pod housing two cameras and a flash module. Instead of the familiar Apple logo that you would find on the back of the iPhone X, the Motorola P30 features a round Motorola logo that also doubles as the fingerprint reader.

Interestingly enough, it looks as though Motorola took a page out of Huawei's playbook with an optional colour-shifting design scheme on the back of the phone called "Aurora". It looks quite similar to the Huawei P20's "Iridescent Twilight" paint job. So much for originality, right?

With regards to the specs, the Motorola P30 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 636 processor that is paired with 6GB of RAM. You can also go for either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage, while the display measures 6.2 inches (19:9 aspect ratio) with a resolution of 2246x1080. The two rear cameras (16MP + 5MP) are accompanied by a 12MP selfie camera up front.

As for the battery, a 3000mAh unit is running the show which should provide all-day battery life. On the Operating Software, the P30 is running Android 8.0 Oreo with Lenovo's ZUI 4.0 software layer running on top. The Motorola P30 is reported to be launching in China on September 15th where it will be priced at roughly $300 for the 64GB model and $360 for the 128GB model.

If there’s any consolation, that’s far less than the $999 starting point for the iPhone X. There's no word of when (or if) it will be available outside of China, guess we will have to wait and see.
